The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a unique military tiltrotor aircraft combining the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) ability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a turboprop airplane. Used by the U.S. and Japan, it excels at versatile transport and cargo missions. First flown in 1989 and introduced in 2007, the V-22 was developed to meet military needs that traditional helicopters or fixed-wing planes couldn’t fulfill.
